Mercedes SLK 230 Komp.. Battery Connections?

After a flat battery on the ferry, they guys on the ferry said they would jump start me and connected up the battery the wrong way around,



I have a Mercedes 230 komp 1998 automatic,

i changed the suction fuse, i now have electrics everything works ie lights radio power hood, but no ignition lights. it winds over and wants to start, as soon as it kicks in to life it chucks it straight away.



my question is.. I am in France, if its only a few al fix it here

if its wrecked al ship it home.

the prob is i only recovery for one hit either home or a garage.



Is there any thing i can look at to find out how bad the damage is.



I know your answers will be a blind stab in the dark but anything to point me in the right direction will be helpfull

    I have an 89 toyota pickup and the aftermarket stereo was stolen. The wire harness was removed during the theft so only the stock bare wires are in the car. I dont want to pay for an installation because I know how to install it, I just dont know how to wire it. I found wire diagrams online (installdr etc) and have hooked it up as directed, I even changed the radio fuse (which was blown) I still have no power or response. Does anyone know how this is done in an installation shop ie hard wiring with a volt meter?How can i install a car stereo without a wire harness?your going to need a wiring harneess

    I have 3 problems



    1. I have a problem with my radiator water Coolant, it dispersal, it docent have leak ( I have checked numerous of times) it just vanishes, I always am buying more to keep putting more in it, like weekly, we taught it was he radiator it self because it was pretty beat up, but it wasn't that, because the water coolant keep disappearing to no where.



    2. if I where to turn on mu AC in my car, the AC will last for maybe an Hour because for some reason it Turns hot and it makes the water coolant of my car evaporate faster. so If I turn on my AC I would have to put Water coolant in my car at d end of d day.



    3. My signals docent work ( the bilkers to tel you if I'm going to turn left or Right)my signals either they don't turn on or they stay on the right blinker. we changed the signal Fuse, and that wasn't it, we changed a little box that made the signal worked, and that wasn't it. I don't know what it is or what to do

    1) replace your radiator cap. If that isnt it, you might have a pin hole leak in the radiator lines...do you smell a strange, sweet smell when you get out of your car? If so, that is antifreeze that is leaking somewhere you arent seeing it.



    2) probably related to the radiator issue. Fix radiator first. Then, have the AC system recharged.



    3) Probably need to replace a bulb...usually, when the blincker stays on, it is because one of the bulbs is burnt out.Can anyone tell me whats wrong with my car ?try getting a new cap on your radiator mine did the same thing you coolant is evaporating so if its not from the cap get the engine hot and look/listen for the leakCan anyone tell me whats wrong with my car ?cASH FOR CLUNKERS :D

    I changed the relay fuse and checked the fuses, when I move the relay department they go on for a second and then back off (which rules out the turning bulbs) how can I fix this? Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for free to download?

    Check to see if your hazard lights work, if they do then its not a relay or a flasher.



    Check the play in the turn singal switch sometimes these just wear out common problem with fords as well.



    Hope this helps usually its a flasher or a multi function/ turn singnal switch.I have a 1995 gmc sonoma and the turning lights quit working, ?I believe you can go to have wiring diagram there.

    I have a cadillac deville 1997 and is trying to hook up a radio.?

    I am trying to hook up the Dual XD122 cd player i had bought from wal-mart. I have the adapter so I wont have to cut my factory wires. I have tried hooking it up as so have others and st first it didnt work until i had changed the radio fuse in my trunk from a 10 to a 15, then the radio came on but then i turned to car off to finish hooking it up. And it stopped coming on again. Through diagnostic situations there is nothing wrong with the radio we have tested in another car. How do i need to place my fuses for correct voltages?     Okay, so I was driving down the road when my system turned off. I looked back only to see that i forgot to screw in the 4 gauge power wire so pulled over and tried to screw it back in. During the process I accidently touch the ground wire and the power wire together and it made a little spark. (keep in mind that everything is still connected to my battery) To my dismay my amp wouldn't even power on. I tried troubleshooting by hooking up my old amp. That one didn't turn on either. So then I thought i blew the fuse so i changed out the fuse and even got a whole new fuse holder. still nothing. At this point im very frustrated and have no idea what is wrong. HOW DO I FIX IT?test your wires by testing your hot wire with a multimeter and see if theres a voltage reading on it. power wires are not that easy to fry unless you literally wired the hot to the ground (it'll melt). it also depends where your amp is mounted too...if its uninsulated and mounted to your car body, then there might be some problem. otherwise, since you said your old amp didnt even turn on, it may just be a problem with your wiring. (this is called a short, where the electric current will take the shortest root to the ground).

HOW DO I FIX IT?the second those two wires touched you blew a fuse someplace. if your vehicles lights and accessory lights still work then the problem lies with the amp OR the fuse on the power wire going from the battery to amp. if it is that fuse then that would explain why both of your amps didn't work. just to be sure make sure you check all your fuses in the car cause there is alot of them that go to different Accessories.

    Hi, Blown fuse in my old style house fuse box but i changed it when power was still on!!!?

    Please help some one? I had a blown fuse in my old style fuse box, So i changed it, but being a fool i forgot to switch of the mains switch and it sparked as i put it in!!

    So i switched of power put it in and then switched it back on with a good fuse, When i checked sockets downstaires they were still not working! So i ran a extension from kitchen whitch is powering front room.

    So is the thing that the fuse goes in to buggered?? Whats it called and how do i replace it??

    Time to test that fuse.

    It may have opened when you tried to insert it.

    (Whatever caused the old one to open may still be there.)

    With a test lamp or meter: First test from the

    'line' side of the fuse holder to ground.

    You should get a positive indication.

    Then test from the 'line' to the 'load' sides of the

    fuse holder. - A positive indication means that:

    *there is load, or a short on the line, and

    *that the fuse is 'open'.



    Note: The sparks when you tried to insert the new

    fuse 'power on', indicate that either there was

    a load on the circuit, or that the circuit is 'shorted'.

    If the later is the case, it's time for a pro.

    I just got my Bug back from body work and a new paint job, and the rear blinkers, horn, and hazard lights do not work. I followed the advice of HOW TO KEEP YOUR VOLKSWAGEN ALIVE and considered the FUSES*. I changed them all - in the process found which lights the inside door when ajar - but the horn, rear blinkers, and hazards still NADA.



    The headlights, break lights, reverse lights, forward blinkers, and rear lights [night] work fine.



    What should I do next?

    I've been using electrical spot heaters only, for heat this winter for the first time with no gas. I have the old screw in type of fuses and I can not afford to re-wire my house. The last two times I overloaded the system, all I had to do was replace a fuse. This time all of the fuses are good. The Electric company came out and said that it is in the wiring inside and probably around the socket area that had the most things plugged into. So here's the deal...

    I understand that I have got to unplug one big thing before I can use another to prevent this from happening again. I've changed all the fuses to 20 Amp instead of 30 Amp which is another reason for this particular problem. Money is tight and I do not want to call an electrician unless I absolutely have to.



    So I am going to turn off all the electricity and look in the socket areas that are not working. Now here is the question... What am I looking for and how do I fix it? Even if I can't fix it at least I can find the problem area and cut down the time it will take for the electrician to fix it to save me money.



    By the way, I'm finally getting my gas fixed tomorrow(Hopefully) I had a gas leak underneath my house and it has been turned off completely, which means I will get my hot water back.

As you are determined to fix this yourself it is best to wise up a bit on how it all works unfortunately there is no indication of what country you are in.

    I will try to explain then find you some references, the more you know the safer you will be.

    In the UK at least sockets are wired in a ring. To understand this it's like this, one long piece of wire obviously has two ends. Live, neutral and black at both ends. Imagine both ends connected to the same L,N,E at the fuse box . You then have a wire in a loop and individual sockets will be connected along this loop. Where each socket connects to the wire then obviously the wire would have to be cut, giving LNE into the socket and LNE out to the next one. Wiring in a ring is for safety as it ensures an even distibution of load, but if the cable was broken somewhere your sockets would normally continue to work as both sides are connected to the LNE.

    Not all countries use a ring main and older uk systems maybe did not use a ring. If this is the case then your wiring is extremely dangerous. Assuming it's not on a ring then it could be a simple break in the cable and this may be near or in a socket. You would be looking to ensure that each socket has a live neutral and earth in and out and that each connection is secure.

    Assuming that your wiring is on a ring, then you are either looking for more than one break or a problem where the main power comes in. Now you say one half of your house is working which brings an extra problem....lights and sockets run off different fuses. If both lights and sockets are not working in one half of your house, then you must have a separate fuse for that half, it's very unlikely that both lighting and socket cables broke at the same time.

    So then you would be looking at where the supplies come from. You may find two main fuses often before the main fuse box. One for one half of the house the other for the other half. You could possibly establish this by taking out one fuse and seeing if your remaining electric goes off. Then it is likely that the problem is at the other fuse or forward but i must stress that any fuses before the fusebox are dangerous and should be handled with extreme care. Both these fuses would most likely be the same rating. If you establish that both fuses are good, then your problem lies forward from that, first into the fuse box itself and then forward to each individual socket.

    The complexity with your problem lies in the old wiring and not knowing if it is a ring main or not.

    I will try to find some sites with extra details to help you, but again i must stress extreme care must be taken at all times.Home Electrical Problems!     OK so heres my problem. My1995 lexus sc300 console backlight is on but the functions wont work. everything from the radio down works. But the heat, A/C, Clock in the dash, Frpnt and rear defrosters. are all not functioning. i have already tried to replace the relay fuse. but this didnt change a thing. if anyone has any advice for me. please please give it.

    the fuse may be good but the o-e fuse holder is subject to corrosion[battery proximity salt air etc. [this was the #1 cause for a [2] series volvo to be towed in] the cure is to soldier in a marine style fuse holder

    you may have a dead pump [use a 12 volt testlamp] and see if you have power and ground at the pump if you do the pump is dead and when replacing it is best to replace the intank pump and filter sock and themain fuel filter at the same time

    I have a kit with a power pack (photogenic) and 3 lights. Its set up so 300ws goes to the main and 150ws to the 2 others. Thing I don't like is the pack can't adjust the intensity of each light. It's pretty much set (have to change some ratio fuse, there's no dials or slider).



    So looking at buying a few monolights with the power built into them and so I can control the F-stops. Looking at Paul C Buffs ultra 600's or White Lightning 1,200's. Want to know what kind of power I Should be looking at per light.How many watts per light is a good amount of power?It all depends on what you intend to shoot and what modifiers you have on your lights. The Photogranics are great for head and shoulder shots and 3/4 length of one to three people. The advantage of the power pack is if you are shooting where others are firing flash as well, your lights will not slave off their firing.



    Full length, the Alien Bees you could get away with two 400's or even better a 400 %26amp; 800.How many watts per light is a good amount of power?How has your existing setup performed in terms of power? For most home studios, 300ws is fine even with big old softboxes on them.



    There is such a thing as too much power, so don't go overboard unless you plan on shooting outdoors and looking to overpower the sun, or have a very large studio and are taking lots of group shots.



    Many monolights have a 5 stop range. Some have less, some more. Even though you %26quot;can%26quot; shoot at 1/32 power, it's not always the best idea as all moderate or inexpensive strobes have some color shift as you decrease the power. So if you like shooting at large apertures in the studio, you have to be concerned with going too big and always shooting at small apertures.How many watts per light is a good amount of power?It's better to get more capacity than you think you need, because there will always be the time you need all the power you can get.     im having a problem regarding my 2door no-frost fridge,first i noticed its stop cooling,then i try to open the back panel of the freezer then i saw some ice formation all around the condenser its too much,then i asked my technician he told me to changed the thermostat fuse then i did,what happen two consecutive days its working but after that the same problem again,what i did i try to defrost the fridge becouse there is full of ice formation again in the condenser,then i rotate clockwise the timer then its works again,after that only 2 days its working then same problem again its stop cooling.everytime i try to defrost its working,i was thinking may the main problem is the defrost heater,it could be? what about the defrost timer do i have to change also? how will i find the defrost heater? where is it located?No-frost fridge problem NATIONAL fridge,,its stop cooling and over freeezing of backside panel condenser?First, that is the evaporator, not condenser.



    You probably didn't defrost it well or it would work longer before building up ice again. You might have to cycle the defrost timer several times (you don;t have to do it all at once) to get it to clear. Each time it defrosts it can be up to 33 minutes before it restarts. It should come back on by itself when the defrost times out. If it doesn't the timer is bad.



    If it defrosts by turning the timer to the defrost cycle then the timer is bad, every thing else is working. Replace the timer.

    I can't get the check engine light to go out. I've checked all the fuilds they are all good. I've put a new distributor cap, rotor and spark plugs. Then took it to a mechanic to change to oil because it smelt like gas they ran a diagnostic test on it and it came back says to change the ECM fuse which they did and then they ran it again and go a code 52 and they couldn't find what would cause that code. then after they put the ECM fuse in the car started to stall. they told us it could be something with the fuel pressure or something since my dad just put a new fuel pump in last weekend. so we took it home and checked the fuel pressure, pump and filter. there was nothing wrong with that.

    9 times out of 10 the check engine light is on due to some sort of pollution control failure.

And I ran into a similar problem. I was trying to hook up LED's before I knew what I was doing and I fried my rheostat (dimmer switch) this caused me to have no illumination in my car. It costs roughly $90 from the dealer, but you can probably get one cheaper from a wrecking yard, or parts store.



    As for the radio, if none of the wires on the harness match, this means that the stock radio was probably stolen, or upgraded by someone who didn't know what they were doing and cut the factory plug. Most likely, if the wire colors do not match up, then you don't have a factory plug. I recommend you go to the dealership or a parts store for a replacement factory plug. If you think that may be too expensive, you can remove the plug and follow these steps.



    What you'll need for testing the wires to make sure they are correct:



    Wire strippers - $10-$20

    Battery (AA or 9V) for testing speaker wires - cheap

    Digital Multimeter, Volt Ohm Meter, or logic probe (preferably not the logic probe because they're not computer or airbag safe) - DMM - $90-Very expensive, VOM - $20-$50, Logic Probe - $10

    Masking tape and pen for labeling - $5

    Crimp caps and a crimping tool - Caps - $5, Crimper - $15-50 (and may come on the stripper tool as well)



    What you'll do: (forgive me I can't remember what colors the wires are in my own car, but you can use these steps on any car)



    Since the VOM is the happy medium between prices, I'll walk you through using that.



    Step one, locate 12V constant, 12V switched, ground, and illumination. I'm pretty sure that the Eclipse doesn't have a ground wire in it's harness so finding ground should be no problem (just to be thorough, ground is anything metal that attaches to the firewall, frame, or wherever the negative terminal on the battery connects to the car).

    - turn off the ignition.

    - strip back a wire. Connect the red probe to the copper and the black to the metal on either side of the radio mounting location. You probably won't find it on your first try, but keep at it. 12V constant will read 12VDC on your VOM regardless of what you do with the key or the dimmer switch. Mark that wire B+ (for battery)

    - 12V switched will take more time, cycle the key to ACC for every wire you test. When you find one that displays 12VDC with the ACC on and 0VDC with the key off. Label this wire ACC.

    - Dimmer or illumination will show 12VDC when you turn on your parking lights/headlights. Label this Illum.



    Step two: Determining speakers and polarity. At this point you should have eight wires left. These will be the positives and negatives of your speakers. Choose one wire and hold it to the positive terminal on the battery (using a AA will supposedly result in less likely damage to your speakers, but if they're stock it doesn't really matter). With the chosen wire firmly pressed to the positive terminal, connect the other wires to the negative terminal one at a time. When you hear a %26quot;pop%26quot; from a speaker you know you've found the leads for that speaker. Now you must determine polarity of that speaker. Look at the speaker while you disconnect one wire from either terminal on the battery. If the cone pops out when you reconnect the wires to the battery then you have the correct polarity on the wires. If it pops in then you have the inverse of what it should be. ex: (made up wire colors) If you have a white wire and a blue wire and then connect blue to - and white to + and the cone on the left rear speaker goes in, then label blue + and white - separate the two wires from the remaining wires and label them both LR.

    - continue in this manner until you have labeled all four speakers.



    After you've done this, you can directly tie the wires into the harness coming out the back of the radio. The wire colors there should be the industry standard.



    -Yellow - 12V Constant

    -Red - 12V Switched

    -Black - Ground

    -Blue - Power Antenna

    -Blue White - Amplifier Turn on

    -Orange - Illumination

    -Orange White - Dimmer

    -White and White Black - Front left speaker +/- respectively

    -Gray and Gray Black - Front right speaker +/- respectively

    -Green and Green Black - Rear left speaker +/- respectively

    -Violet and Violet Black - Rear right speaker +/- respectively



    Make sure you crimp your wires, do not use just twist them and wrap them with electrical tape, NEVER use wire nuts in a car. Crimp caps are the best balance of speed and connection. If you want the absolute BEST connection you should use solder and tape.



    If this sounds like too much work, take it to your local mobile electronics shop and they should be able to take care of it for you. As for price it just depends on what they will charge for an hourly rate. If so, you cannot touch the gas - not even plug the oven into the gas supply - without being Corgi registered. It is illegal.

    Your electrics should be replaced. If you don't know a small local trusted firm, ask your friends and colleagues. Then ask the contractor for names and addresses of people he has done work for.

    It is a case of priorities - and budget. But personally I would sooner have plenty of power points in every room than an expensive carpet in the lounge. That can come later. If you get the carpet first, it will have to be moved when you update your electricity.

    Remember, once the rewiring is being done, then power points work out at a couple of quid each. So get as many as you can, on as many walls in each room as you can afford.



    And get some placed at waist height for the vacuum cleaner. No excuse to bend down to the skirting board nowadays.



    And your old boiler could be copper. Think of the scrap value when you budget.

    Possible that some wiring's insulation has rubbed down and is grounding itself. It's also probably either dangling or not in contact with the chassis at all times, which is why it worked briefly, but once the wiring moved a little, it contacted ground again.

    Have you changed light bulbs lately? I have aslo see single element bulbs (which have both sides of connecrtioon isolated from the case of bulb socket), - you put a single element-single contact bulb in this one,-- and it shorts the wiring directly to ground. They used this setup in Fords for years, - but that all went out with the non-bayonet (locking bulbs).



    Now here is how you can check to find out were the shorts are (safely), - go buy a test light (costs less than $5 at any car parts supplier), - or make you own, -- if it is the little %26quot;plug in %26quot; fuse that has the two little flat connectors on it, - you can brake the fuse in half and get all the plastic off, and then solder a couple wires on %26quot;connectors%26quot;'-plug into the two connectors in fusebox, and then hook up a bulb to the wires (I like an old headlight that has one element burned out)-- when you find and %26quot;remove%26quot; the short, - the bulb will go out (or become dimmer depending on how many other bulbs are in %26quot;the line%26quot;!-- If you wiggle it, and it has a bare wire, every time it hits the body, it will make the light come back on (or blink if only monentary)! Of course you may have to have the tail lights turned on to check this out! --- if you have a headlight bulb, when the %26quot;short%26quot; is taken out-, both the bulb, and the tail lights will burn %26quot;dimmer%26quot; than usual, as they are %26quot;splitting the voltage%26quot; available. Remember all the other %26quot;parking and sidelights%26quot; are on this circuit also, - so don't neglect to check for shorts around these either! Note:::: if the little test light from store is used, it may burn a little less brightly, but tail lights may remain very dim, because the amount of %26quot;power%26quot; going through the %26quot;little%26quot; bulb, is no where near equal to the tail/park/sidelight circuit! However when the circuit is shorted, it sill will burn brightly!

    Help car speedometer and blinkers wont work !! help me please?

    i have a manual transmition car and im still new to it i have a honda civic 1992 it has about 224490 miles on it.

    my car was working fine, i go to leave work and stale while backing up, i turn back on the car and back up and go and notice the speedometer wont go off zero its stuck there, then i go to use my blinker and neither side will work, not light up in car or outside but head lights still work and tail lights and the rest of the dash lights work, do you know what is wrong? i changed the fuses and everything but nothing worked, do you think its serious or know how to fix it? please help!Help car speedometer and blinkers wont work !! help me please?you need to top up the blinker fluid.Help car speedometer and blinkers wont work !! help me please?Check your fuses again.     Car amp fried?

    I just got a new (used) amp for my car. I hooked it up and everything was working fine for a few days. Then I went to permanently install the amp by screwing it down and the positive line came loose. There were some sparks, I disconnected the battery, hooked it up again and nothing! No more bass.



    I changed both fuses on the amp and at the battery.



    I know my sub and the wiring to it is okay because I did a quick test with a 9V.



    I know the RCA's to the amp are fine because I hooked them up to a separate speaker and there was sound.



    I can see that the ground wire is secure and I'm guessing the positive wire is fine because there were those sparks.



    The only wire I'm not sure how to test is the remote wire, but I can see the solder and it seems fine.



    I've also had experience when screwing gear to metal it sometimes grounds out so I unscrewed it and it's still pooched.



    What else can I do? I'm not actually sure if the amp is powering up because there's no LED's on the amp itself.Car amp fried?the blue wire should have 12 volts dc when the head unit is turned on

    make sure the power wire has 12volts dc and the connection is tight

    make sure the ground is tight on both ends

    take a volt meter and make sure there is 12 volts dc between the power and the ground wire at the ampCar amp fried?you fried it , shorted it out when you tapped it, you can take it apart and fix it or buy a new one, some amps in the lower grade are very touchy.Car amp fried?there may also be an inline fuse on the remote wire at the back of the head unit, if you havent already checked that

    I have a audio reciever that was working just fine, but then a power outage occurred. Now my receiver is dead and won't turn on. I changed the fuses but no go. What happens to electronics during a power outage that could cause this, and is it possible to fix this? Would I have to buy new parts and what type of parts? How would I go about to fix this problem? I don't want to buy a new one...this is just a fun project for me.

    The audio receiver is Pioneer VSX-515Power Outage - electronics broken?Unplug the unit and take the case off most of the pioneer amps have a fuse inside the case right near the spot where the 110 hooks up to the transformer. Remove the fuse and go to Radio Shack and get a replacement. I have fixed several old receivers this way usually for under $2.00

    Ford Taurus 99 Headlight & High Beams Out Help!?

    The drivers headlight stopped working - got a new bulb- didn't work, fuses were blown changed the fuses (headlight still didn't work) - used high beams to drive at night (not that bright of high beams) then the high beams went - got new fuses blew both fuses when attempting to use the lights. I know it is probably a wire-ing problem anyone have any ideas or have you seen that kind of thing before to know how to solve the problem

There location is in the owners manual. You should removeit and clean it's terminals and see if that works. Fuses blowing is never good. Are they still blowing? You should take it to someone who knows what they're doing. A melted wiring harness is not cheap to repair. If cleaning connections doesn't help, you may indeed melt a harness by messing with it.
