HELP!! How can half a Christmas light strand go out and how do you fix it?

My bro got a pre lite tree and half of a middle strand does not work. we have changed the fuses and messed with each blub to make sure they work. i am at a lost on how to get half of a strand to work. HELP!! any clue what to doHELP!! How can half a Christmas light strand go out and how do you fix it?I had the same problem when I put up my Christmas tree. Its a prelit one as well. I got mine to work by tracing the entire series of lights, and i found a bulb that was loose. I pushed it in and they came on.

I would suggest three things:

1. Go down the entire strand and touch or tap each bulb. Sometimes the series will go out if a bulb is twisted wrong or is loose in the connection. You can just tap each one and whichever one makes it come on, take it out and replace it.

2.You can also go around the tree where the lights are out and begin to brush the branches with your hands. Sometimes just wiggling the branches and lights will make them all come on.

3.Or, if you get frustrated, you can always go buy an extra strand and fill in the spot where the lights are not burning. I have had to do that one time.



A burned out bulb will not cause the lights to go out on a prelit tree. They are made to work with burned out bulbs. BUT, they will stop working if there is no bulb at all, or if a bulb is busted..This is because the strand has to have the wire on the bulb to complete the circuit. So, most likely it is not just a burned out bulb, unless your tree is somewhat older.

At the point where the first light is out this will b the blown bulb, this will break the circuit making the rest go out, hense why only half the strand is lit. So if u replace the bulb u should find that your lights will work again. If this doesn't work check the bulb holders n check that the connectors inside r not damaged. If the tree is in sections then have a look at the points where it goes into the next section.good luck n merry christmas!
